Right Culture should make you look forward to get to work everyday, should get you better results & ROI, if it doesn’t, its neither right, nor is it a culture
The Brew
When its comes to human capital, at The Brew, we believe culture is the second most misunderstood phenomenon – talent being the first. However, we don’t intend to offer any criticisms or alternate thoughts to these, not at least in this post. So what are we doing with culture in this ?? Fun Fact: Corporate culture was first introduced in the academic and research community by Larry Senn in 1969, in his doctoral dissertation titled ‘Organisational Character as a Methodological Tool in the Analysis of Business Organisations’.
While a lot has been spoken about culture, here is something that we have always grappled with: how do you compare organizations’ basic culture ?? Having worked with organizations across the lifecycle & of various sizes, one can subjectively order cultures, but can there be minimal objectivity to it ?? (Quite often than not, Startups have more engaged workforce due to culture, however, its the large scale organizations that have more elements of culture. Similarly, it becomes quixotic to compare organizations across various phases in their lifecycles, basis culture, lacking an element of parity, or apple – oranges alike measurements.
To solve the above problem, we built Right Culture – a tool which measures the degree of like-ability of employees to look forward to work everyday at the organization. This like-ability is measured in felt behaviors across 7 dimensions – Engaged Colleagues, Engaged Customer, Engaged Teams, Engaged Management, Engaged Leadership, Engaged Purpose, Engaging Work (Culture is an outcome of how the above elements behave amongst each other without presence of a tangible stimulus – The Brew’s POV on Culture).
The underlying fundamental being, that Culture essentially is the outcome of interaction & interplay between an employee & these 7 elements, & the degree of behavioral kinetics, if present, validates the Right Culture ambience, seeding the essential conditions for a high performance organization & enabling the employees & these constituents to thrive collectively & build the organizational progress. Also, there exist a very strong direct correlation between culture & engagement quotient (irrefutably, both feed in to each other, to as much degree, as much they directly impact the business outcomes). Right Culture, with its objective score very finely balances the culture & overall engagement, reflecting degree of fulfillment, these dimensions have in accomplishment of business & organizational outcomes. Taking engagement & culture from being a concept to something that gets manifested & experienced in actions & behaviors daily, for everybody with organization as a touch-point, Right Culture nudges & drives organizations to be better.
Why ‘Right Culture’ ??
Simplistically put, Right Culture measures the behaviors of the above dimensions (attributes for engaging work), with a proven bias, that these behaviors will be showcased, should these dimensions be engaged inherently – leading to presence of Right Culture in the workplace. Unlike the contemporary culture tools, which are highly prescriptive of nature, entails measuring presence of human capital levers, like (which by no means fail to bolster the claim, of being pre-requisites to great culture), performance effectiveness, accountability, empowerment, communication, collaboration, growth, development, innovation etc.
The Brew’s Right Culture gets under the hood of organizations, uncovering deeper insights & nuances in your workplace, providing the framework to make effective change. Right Culture was created to help organizations across the lifecycles & of varied sizes, to be availed with a level playing field, to find areas of opportunities, manage priorities, and realize the potential of building ‘Good to Great’ & “Built to Last’ cultures.
